Drug Analysis

In this Assignment, you are going to compare depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens, and identify a specific theoretical explanation for why an individual would choose to use one or more of these drugs.

You are to identify one drug from each category (see examples below). In a minimum 4-page paper, you are to analyze and evaluate the differences between the drugs, including composition, manufacture/cultivation, how they are used, and their physical and psychological effects on the human body. You will then identify one specific theory, such as anomie, differential association, social control, cultural deviance, labeling, behaviorism, behavior modification, or cognitive learning that you believe best explains why an individual would choose to use one or more of your chosen drugs.

A sample of drugs listed in the three categories is shown below, but you may also choose a drug not on the list. Although this paper is on a topic of your choosing, it is recommended that if you identify and choose a drug not on the list below, you have it approved by the instructor prior to beginning the Assignment.

OUTLINE

Formal Outline:

You may follow any type of format you choose when completing this assignment.  Anything that helps you to organize your thoughts is good.  Remember though, it must be substantive and in paragraph form and detailed.  Also, the sources you use must be scholarly sources.

This paper must be 2-3 pages in length, not including the cover page and reference page.  One word outlines are not acceptable.  Your paragraphs can be brief but must be informative and you must show research done.

The purpose of the Formal Outline is for students to organize their research and show the topics and areas that they will cover throughout the Research Project. By breaking down the paper into various sections, topics, sub-topics, and details, students can divide large amounts of data into smaller, more orderly sections. The Formal Outline helps students organize their thoughts, stay on topic, and follow a logical order. It also provides students with the opportunity to show a progression of thought and direction, and can highlight specific areas of the Research Project that may need more or less attention.

Write a two to three page (2-3) page paper in which you:

Provide an Introduction paragraph, an outline of your research and work done on the paper and include some conclusions or findings so far.

Identify the main points and sections of your Research Paper.

Identify the sub-topics and details consistent with the main points and sections.

Present information in an organized and logical manner.

Use at least three (3) new scholarly sources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia, Ask.com, Answers.com, Freedictionary.com, and other open source Websites do not qualify as scholarly.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format.

Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

PAD 540 WEEK 9 DISCUSSION

PAD 540 WEEK 9 DISCUSSION

“Social Welfare Programs” Please respond to the following:
“Social Security, established in 1935, is the most costly item in the federal budget. After the income tax, it also provides the largest source of tax revenues. The program provides senior, survivor, and disability insurance protection to most people who work in wage and salary jobs and to the self-employed. Workers and their employers each pay taxes equal to 6.2 percent of covered wages. The self-employed pay 12.4 percent of taxable self-employment earnings. Taxes are collected by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and deposited in government-administered accounts called the Old-Age and Survivors and Disability Insurance (OASDI) Trust Funds” (Bosworth & Burtless, 1997).
•    The privatization of the Social Security system is spreading from Chile to Argentina, Spain, England, and Australia. Mexico and Italy are the most recent to jump on board. Liberty

American Government I

Liberty

In Lecture 1, we explored how “liberty” was interpreted by the Founders of the American Constitution. These Founding Fathers were influenced by political philosophers who argued that liberty is always at risk, and because of that risk, liberty must be protected, not just by the leaders of a nation, but also by the citizens.

While our founding fathers realized government was necessary to protect the citizens from criminals and outsiders (Lecture 2, comments about the King of England), they were concerned with amount of power the government should be given. To ensure that the people maintained power, the first Ten (10) Amendments (also called: The Bill of Rights) were added.

For this week’s assignment, write a 500-750 word essay addressing each of the following questions:

  • What is liberty? Provide a definition and at least one example.
  • Why does it matter? Explain what you think the citizens of a nation might gain or lose through their liberty.
  • What is your personal responsibility to protect it? Provide examples of what you can do, what you should do, and what you must do.
  • In modern times, do you think Americans have gained/maintained liberty in the way the Founding Fathers described it in the Constitution? Why or why not?

As in all your weekly written assignments, be sure to tie your writing to the readings for that week. You should strive to demonstrate to your instructor (and to the rest of the university) your full understanding of the course concepts being addressed. Don’t just answer the questions; really think them through. How will your ideas fit within Locke’s “social contract?”

Submit your work as an attached file. Double-space your paper and use 12 point Times NewRoman as your font.
