P U 505 Unit  6  Assignment Instructions H ea l t h B e h a v i o r In  Unit  4,  you  completed  an  Assignment  where  you  identified  goals and objectives for  a proposed  health  intervention,  project,  or  program  for  your  chosen  health  issue which is OBESITY.

For  this Assignment,  you  will build  upon  your  previous  work  by  reflecting  on  your  goals  and objectives  as  they  relate  to  diversity  and  multiculturalism  within  your  profession.

This  Assignment  has  two  parts,  both  of  which  should  be  addressed  within  this  paper.  You will  begin  this  Assignment  by  providing  a  2-page  analysis  assessing  the  significance  of diversity  and  multicultural  perspectives  within  public  health  and  health  education  fields. Please  identify  why  it  is  important  to  consider  multiple  perspectives  before  beginning  an intervention.

The  second  part  of  the  Assignment  is  to  reflect  upon  the  goals  and  objectives  you  created  in Unit  4.  As  they  are  written,  could  they  be  applied  to  a  diverse  or  multicultural  population? How  would  they  need  to  change  to  be  culturally  sensitive  or  inclusive?

Conclude  this  Assignment  with  a  short  discussion  on  strategies  to  implement  these changes.

Requirements •  Provide  proper  APA  style  citation  and  referencing  for  all  sources  used  to  develop goals  and  objectives.

The Problem of Pain

Prepare.png Prepare: Ensure you have finished reading Chapters 3 and 4 in your textbook and reviewed any relevant Instructor Guidance prior to completing this discussion.

Reflect.png Reflect: Address the following in your post. Take the role of a professional utilizing applied behavioral science methods to help clients manage pain. Create a fictitious scenario in which a client is referred to you by her or his family physician for an applied psychology treatment to help manage pain. Your client has been taking prescription medications for pain management and desires to reduce the need for the medication.

Write.png Write: For your initial post:

Identify the type of pain your client is experiencing for which applications of applied behavioral science are appropriate (e.g., arthritis, bone or joint pain, muscle pain, fibromyalgia, migraine headaches, cancer pain, post-surgery, etc.).

Describe any psychological factors and emotional states of your client which appear to impact her or his mental and physical health (e.g., depression, anxiety, general level of satisfaction with life).

Indicate the client’s locus of control and health motivation. Utilize terminology outlined in your reading.

Identify any additional stressors your client is experiencing that may exacerbate her or his pain experience.

Based on the reading, identify at least one pain management technique you believe would best reduce the pain experience in this situation.

Examine the application of your selected pain management technique in relation to the same situation within a different culture. Explain the role of the perception of pain and the impact of culture on perception of pain, identifying and usage trends of applied behavioral science unique to different groups.

Your initial post must be a minimum of 200 words. You must utilize at least two scholarly sources (e.g., professional web source, peer-reviewed journal articles, recommended video) and include in-text citations and a reference list that are in accordance with APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. For further assistance in researching scholarly sources, be sure to access the tutorials page on the Ashford University Library website.

Nursing assignment: Handwashing

Only one page for this assignment:

Questions to be addressed in my paper:

1. Critique the alignment of the lab-based lesson to your colleague’s selected video.

2. Validate or provide an alternative perspective on whether this video would help prepare learners for the clinical lab and why.

This is my colleague’s post:

Clinical Lab and Instructional Videos

Handwashing Video

According to the CDC (2002), each year nearly 2 million patients in the United States get an infection in hospitals, and about 90,000 of these patients die as a result of their infection. Hand washing reduces the incidence of healthcare associated infections because clean hands are the single most important factor in preventing the spread of pathogens and antibiotic resistance in healthcare settings (CDC, 2002).  Although handwashing seems like a simple concept, hand hygiene continues to be among the top reasons that health care facilities are cited during federal and state regulatory compliance surveys.

I chose a video that reviews and demonstrates the proper techniques used in effective handwashing.  The video includes an introduction to the patient, turning on the water, lathering, washing all the essential areas of the hands, between fingers, nails, and wrists, time of washing, rinsing, drying of hands, and turning off the faucet (Mayer, 2012).

By the end of the lesson, the learner will:

1. Describe when handwashing should be performed.

2. Demonstrate their ability to correctly perform handwashing using learned techniques.

The intended audience is practicing nurses, nursing students in an undergraduate nursing program, physicians, and patients.

Clinical skills laboratories (CSL) can optimize students’ learning for development of professional knowledge and skills, necessary for quality nursing practice and for patient safety. Another words, it allows the learner to integrate theory and practice in order to develop professional and personal competence (EwertssonAllvin, Holmström, & Blomberg, 2015). They say a picture is worth a thousand words. When we hear words, we conjure a mental picture that relates to what is being said. However, the images that I project in my mind may be different than the one that another person might project even though we both heard the same words. My plan would be to have the learners view the video prior to the clinical lab. By showing the video of the proper steps to follow when performing handwashing prior to going into the clinical lab, everyone gets the same mental picture. The learner can then start to process how they will incorporate those same steps into their practice so they can competently demonstrate the skill after practicing in the lab.

ABS200 week 3 discussion replies (DUE IN 8 HOURS) TODAY

Be sure to include in your reply specific commentary examining the uses and applications of applied behavioral science as discussed by your classmate. Ask questions that might help to further your understanding of the applications of applied behavioral science and take the discussion to a deeper level. Do you agree with your peer’s rationale as to how a forensic psychologist might help? Why, or why not? What other similarities and differences might you share about the actual work of forensic psychologists and the way it is presented in popular media such as television and the movies?

Briefly describe this person/character, including the medium (real life, television, movie, book, etc.) from which he or she comes, why you selected him or her, his or her background, and the background of the crimes he or she committed.

Aileen Wuornos was a real-life female serial killer. As a child, her father was convicted of sexually abusing children and killed himself in prison. At one point he was diagnosed as schizophrenic. Wuornus was abandoned by her mother at four years old and forced to live with her abusive grandparents. After having a baby at 14 she was kicked out of her grandparent’s home and lived on the streets as a prostitute. Wuornos was convicted of six life sentences for killing men she accused of either raping her or attempting to rape her.

Based on your reading this week, define, in your own words, forensic psychology as a specific example of applied behavioral science, and describe how forensic psychology could have been helpful in this case.

“Forensic psychology is a field of study that applies scientific psychological knowledge to legal issues pertaining to criminal offenders and the criminal justice system. Identify trends in forensic psychology that would prove helpful” (McCarthy et al, 2016, section 6.1). I would define it as the application and education of reliable scientific psychology in the criminal justice system. Forensic psychologist can evaluate human behaviors and based on scientifically reliable assessments determine the dangerousness to a person’s self or society at large. The can also look for common diagnosis to determine if a person is fit to stand trial. In the case of Wuornus, a forensic psychologist could have examined her RAP sheet to determine if she was a threat to society. She was arrested for several crimes, including armed robbery and assault. In the biosocial age, criminologist now have access to genetic and brain imaging data. I think it would have been worth assessing her for schizophrenia. She stated that the men she killed either raped her or attempted to rape her until she was executed. Paranoia is common in schizophrenics and some believed she was convinced that she was raped or about to be raped. In her mind the murders were justified.

Discuss why profiling is or is not a science.

Profiling can never be an exact science because of complexities of the human mind. However, it can be reliable and used as useful insights into studied human behavior.

Examine the similarities and differences between what you have read about forensic psychologists’ work and the way television and movies present their work.

I am a Criminal Minds and Law and Order fanatic. Both shows use forensic psychology to either profile suspects or to determine criminal intent. The psychologist are almost always correct and in these shows, they show vulnerabilities based on their characters experiences. In real life forensic psychologist also contributes to think tanks and academia. I do believe they can be predisposed to their personal experiences and character.

Identify ethical considerations forensic psychologists need to consider.

Forensic Psychologist must rely on the behaviors and research to make their expert opinion. Allowing personal feelings to cloud expertise can have detrimental effects. When forensic psychologist testify in court, they must consider the ramifications regardless if they are testifying for the prosecutors or the defense.

Briefly describe this person/character, including the medium (real life, television, movie, book, etc.) from which he or she comes, why you selected him or her, his or her background, and the background of the crimes he or she committed.

John Wayne Gacy, he is an american serial killer and rapist that would dress as a clown from time to time when he would commit his crimes. John is know for the sexual assault, torture and murder of at least 33 teenage boys and young men between the years 1972-1978. John was married twice and had two kids. He was found guilty in 1980 on multiple death and life sentences. John died Mat 10, 1994 at Stateville correctional center of execution with lethal injection. I picked John because my boyfriend shared him with me and when reading more about him it was something I wanted to share.

Based on your reading this week, define, in your own words, forensic psychology as a specific example of applied behavioral science, and describe how forensic psychology could have been helpful in this case.

I think that if a forensic psychology was used they could have talk with John to see if there was more victims, or get a better understanding as to why he did what he did. There is also that look in to seeing was the jury in thinking and they are about to read that.

Identify trends in forensic psychology that would prove helpful.

Reading juries, knowing what color a client should wear

Discuss why profiling is or is not a science.

I would go with a Science becasue it does have to do with algorithms and math tech.

Examine the similarities and differences between what you have read about forensic psychologists’ work and the way television and movies present their work.

The one that I picked was real bur in TV and in the movies they are always mean and almost to smart for their own good. Now I have not meet a forensic psychologists but I have meet other psycologist and that is not how they act.

8 elements

Eight Elements of Thought and Reasoning

There are eight elements of thought in reasoning. We often use more than one element at the same time. For example, your Point of View includes Assumptions. Therefore, we can assume that these elements are two aspects of the same thing.

For your assignment this week, first begin by analyzing eight elements of thought and reasoning and re-organize them into four distinct categories by pairing elements together.

Next, briefly describe each new category you created and present your reasoning for each category. Include the characteristics of the original eight elements in your descriptions and the reasoning behind your pairings

Category:
Point of view is …
Assumptions are…
Explanation…
Example:

Below is an example of what one category may look like. You are free to pair any elements together if you can define their relationship to one another. Focus on the reasoning behind each pairing. That is what is most important in this exercise!

Example Category:

Category 1: How do I see it?

Point of View: The place from where I see things

Assumption: Information that is taken for granted; Preconceived notions

Explanation: I paired point of view and assumptions together in the same category because assumptions form your point of view. You cannot form a point of view without having assumptions first.

Example: My assumption is that short people are not good at basketball. My younger cousin is 5’ 3’’ and is terrible at the sport. Therefore, my point of view is that no short people can play basketball professionally.

Your completed assignment should be written primarily in first person and should be 500-750 words in length. If you use sources in your writing, be sure to identify them. If you use any direct language from a source, be sure to place those words in quotation marks.

Conflict Discussion

Watch the video scenario entitled “Conflict.” Click here to view the text transcript of the video. Imagine that you are a member of the group, sitting silently and observing the conversation. You have a good working relationship with all of the people who are in the meeting, and you and the others have openly given each other feedback to help improve workplace performance. As you observe the meeting, you notice some things that took place and want to share that information with your colleagues so that they are aware.

In the discussion area, write an e-mail to your colleagues with your observations, at least two or more specific observations, of the meeting and how their verbal and/or nonverbal communication might have been interpreted. Provide your colleagues with at least two or more strategies that you have learned in this course that might help them in future brainstorming meetings.

Your initial post should be a minimum of 250–300 words and should reference specific terms and concepts from the text and materials presented in this module. Be sure that your response includes two or more specific observations and two or more specific strategies based on what you’ve learned in the course.

After you have made your initial post, be sure to respond to your classmates. Imagine that you are another colleague who works in this company and is taking the same Interpersonal Effectiveness course as the person who wrote the e-mail. The writer of the post has asked you to read his or her e-mail for feedback before it is sent. Your feedback should be positive and point back to the material that you have learned in this course.

Responses to classmates’ posts should be substantive and be at least 150–200 words in length. Your responses should elaborate on your thoughts, bringing in terms and ideas from your text and classroom materials to support your ideas. Please post and respond following the criteria listed below.

Complete your participation for this assignment through the end of the module.

Guidelines for responding to your classmates’ posts:

Appropriate responses may include:

  • Asking a follow-up question
  • Furthering the discussion
  • Reinforcing a response
  • Adding another dimension

Inappropriate responses include:

  • Using simple statements of agreement/disagreement
  • Making personal attacks
  • Arguing without supportive evidence
  • Making off-topic comments

Aerobic Versus Anaerobic: What is the Difference?

Select one of the following: a triathlete, a football player, a gymnast, and one phase of their sport. For example, if you choose the triathlete you can choose the cycling phase of their activity, or if you choose the football player, you could choose the sprint phase of their activity, or if you choose the gymnast, you may choose the backflip phase of their activity.

  • As your athlete performs the chosen activity, discuss whether rapid or slow glycolysis is the most effective means of energy transfer?
  • What physiological factors contributed to your analysis (e.g. hydrogen release, lactate formation, glucose catabolism, etc.)?
  • How did these factors influence your choice?
  • Explain the benefits of lactate for optimal performance of the chosen activity.

Your research and claims must be supported by your course text and a minimum of two additional scholarly sources. Use proper APA formatting for in-text citations and references

Guided Response: Review some of your classmates’ posts. Identify at least two classmates who chose a different athlete than you chose and analyze the appropriateness of the type of glycolysis they discussed. Then, explain if you agree with the benefits of lactate identified for their chosen activity. Support your reasoning for each response to your classmates with at least one scholarly source.

Rapid assessment procedures (RAPs) developed from the urgency of certain problems requiring the rapid collection of information directly related to policy solutions (Ervin, 2005). The needs of these Native communities and the effect that the pipeline could have on them can be examined through a series of questions asked to various effected households. Their cultural beliefs and livelihood methods are at risk if the plans of the pipeline follow through. The following questions developed with the RAPs methods can be asked to better understand the impact and find solutions to the conflict:

If you were offered a temporary construction job, working on the proposed pipeline, would you accept the offer?Would the establishment of this pipeline prevent you or people you know from accessing your trapping grounds? What do you believe are the potential negative effects that the pipeline could have on the surrounding environment? What do you believe are the potential positive effects that the pipeline could have on the surrounding environment? What do you believe are the potential negative effects of the pipeline could have on you and your family’s health? What do you believe are the potential positive effects that the pipeline could have on you and your family’s health?Do you believe that the establishment of this pipeline has any potential benefits to your culture, such as tourism created by the construction of a road?Do you feel like the construction of the pipeline will only hinder your culture’s prosperity?

Discuss how you would apply the Rapid Assessment Procedures (RAPs) methods described in Chapter 14 of Applied Anthropology: Tools and Perspectives for Contemporary Practices to this hypothetical scenario described on page 259 of the textbook:

As a research consultant how would you use RAPs to examine the needs of the Native communities?

The problems with rapid assessment methods are that so many details get left out and the information gathered is often incomplete (Ervin, 2005). There simply is not time to do thorough research. Considering that this road is going to be built despite any objections, I feel that it would be necessary to get the community involved and to help them find ways in which to participate and make this road work for them. This would require that I develop rapport with the community and perhaps host Q&A sessions in a public location in order to gather a quick understanding of the community’s feeling son the topic. This is not my preferred anthropological method, I would not be a benefactor or a decision-making authority figure, however I could let the community know that I was on their side and that I was working for their interests in relation to the decision-makers involved with building the road. It would also be important to go into the homes of the trappers and perhaps go out on hunting trips with them, in order to understand a little bit about how trapping and subsistence keeps their community afloat. This information could be used to help builders mitigate construction problems and keep environmental disturbance to a minimum.

Of course, as Ervin (2005) explains concerning RAP’s in agricultural communities, it is probably a good idea to have a team of people observing, talking and reporting back on community lifestyles and their concerns. Though this is not an agricultural community, I feel that informal methods would be best, instead of questionnaires. This way, people would be able to voice their concerns their own way, instead of just answering questions on paper that may not even be relevant.

Include a list of at least five questions that you would ask in each effected household that would provide information about cultural beliefs and livelihood methods.

1. Are you worried that the road will cause problems for trappers? Are there solutions to these problems?

2. Are you worried about tourists, travelers or other traffic from the road coming into your village?

3. Will this project interfere with your livelihood or provide you with some much needed opportunities?

4. Do you think the road could help your community in any way?

5. How do you feel about non-native people living and working in your community for the duration of this project?      Are any of you excited about having visitors?

6. Does the road pass through any sacred lands? Will it interfere with your religious activities at all?

7. Do you require any formalities with the road; blessings, prayers, other spiritual concerns?

8. Are there plants or animals that you feel need to be relocated prior to the building of the road? Are any of your people willing to help with this?

(As a side note: I ask this last question because in Arizona when roads are built there are protected plants that have to be moved to nursery plots before construction can begin and if the road crew kills the plants they are heavily fined, idk if other places do this or not but it seems like natives to the area might know a bit about caring for their flora especially if they are involved in subsistence activities)

Applied science

Early on Monday, the Supervising Manager called your group/team and congratulated you on excellent stakeholders’ review (week 4assignment). Your work was so good that the Manager decided to use it as a standard approach for all other groups/teams. He/she asks you to make a graphical representation of the combined linkages and affiliations between the identified primary and affiliated stakeholders and the managerial job roles in your team that can serve as a visual map for the rest of the organization. The stakeholders’ linkage map needs to represent the types of links directed to solve managerial issues identified in week 2 Memos and the communication linkages among the job roles with the shared goal to affect the needs of the affected population.

You can use any software/program to accomplish this goal as long as it is visible in LEO and free. This creative process requires precision and careful planning. Think thought linkages and affiliations. Imagine how it would work in real life. One of the recommended programs to use is Paint. Post the template in the forum for the team members to fill in. You may use Google Doc as well.

In order to accomplish this quick project, your team needs to collaborate on the format of the map, direction of link and affiliations and to coordinate the editing and submission of the final product. Recommended steps to completion:

1.      Read all the Memos from week 2  and the stakeholder analysis from week 4(Monday)

2.      Make a list of the issues, identified relationships among the team job roles and the stakeholders as well the directional communication( By Wednesday)

3.      Decide on the map format. You may look at some examples at:

4.      Assign a person responsible for the frame development(Wednesday/Thursday)

5.      Each group member enters relevant information in the appropriate locations (Thursday)

6.      Review the draft (Friday)

7.      Assigned person to edit the draft and to convert it to the visually cohesive product (Saturday)

8.      Miscellaneous/submit to the dropbox for grading (due day)
