Writing Assignment (Part 4): Investigate a Social Issue Final Paper
Due Week 10 and worth 150 points

Working from your previous assignments and from the feedback of your professor, you will now write the final draft of your paper. Specifically, you will submit a three to five (3-5) page paper in which you address all of the following:

  1. Specific Hypothesis.  Introduce your paper by identifying the specific hypothesis you are evaluating in this paper.
  2. Applicable Sociological Concepts. Identify the sociological theories and terminology from the text that apply to your social issue
  3. Practical Implications.  Discuss the value of sociological research into your issue.  Determine whether or not there are (or would be) practical implications of sociological inquiry into this issue.
  4. Evidence.  This is the most important part of the paper.  Analyze  at least two (2) lines of evidence that pertain to the hypothesis you are evaluating.  Does the evidence support your hypothesis?  For each type of evidence, consider possible biases and alternative interpretations.
  5. Conclusions.  Draw conclusions based on the evidence that you have discovered. Does the evidence confirm or refute your hypothesis?  Is the evidence sufficiently convincing to draw firm conclusions about your hypothesis?

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Evaluate the various methodologies for sociological research.
  • Apply the sociological perspective to a variety of socioeconomic and political problems.
  • Critically examine how society shapes individuals and how individuals shape society.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in sociology.
  • Write clearly and concisely about sociology using proper writing mechanics.
  • NOTE: Please use the attachment below to fix the draft paper part 3. I need to submit final paper using this same paper but following the professor comments to fix the paper : here its for your information to do the final paper.
  • Professor Comments from draft paper (part 3)
  • You have APA errors. Please refer to the APA template available on the Student Center page under Additional Resources. This draft is not in accordance with the instructions.  You were supposed to have had 3 to 5 pages not including cover and ref pages. Even with your abstract which is not required nor requested you have two and a half pages. You do not have in-text citations for each of the refs you have listed. You have an in-text citation that does not have a corresponding ref. This is just a draft, so for your final paper follow the instructions for the assignment and check your paper against the grading rubric. You did not use the Turnitin feature so I hope that your matching percentage does not exceed 20%.

LEG 500 Assignment 4 Legal and Ethical Considerations in Marketing, Product Safety, and Intellectual Property

Assignment 4: Legal and Ethical Considerations in Marketing, Product Safety, and Intellectual Property

Due Week 9 and worth 300 points

You are a new associate at the law firm of Dewey, Chetum, and Howe. John, a former researcher at PharmaCARE, comes to your office. He has concerns about PharmaCARE’s use of AD23, one of the company’s top-selling diabetes drugs. Two (2) years ago, after PharmaCARE’s research indicated that AD23 might also slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease, John and his team of pharmacists began reformulating the drug to maximize that effect. In order to avoid the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) scrutiny, PharmaCARE established a wholly-owned subsidiary, CompCARE, to operate as a compounding pharmacy to sell the new formulation to individuals on a prescription basis. CompCARE established itself in a suburban office park near its parent’s headquarters. To conserve money and time, CompCARE did a quick, low-cost renovation.

CompCARE benefited from PharmaCARE’s reputation, databases, networks, and sales and marketing expertise, and within six (6) months had the medical community buzzing about AD23. Demand soared, particularly among Medicare, Medicaid, and Veterans Affairs patients. Seeing the opportunity to realize even more profit, CompCARE began advertising AD23 directly to consumers and marketing the drug directly to hospitals, clinics, and physician offices, even though compounding pharmacies are not permitted to sell drugs in bulk for general use. To circumvent this technicality, CompCARE encouraged doctors to fax lists of fictitious patient names to CompCARE. PharmaCARE sold CompCARE to WellCo, a large drugstore chain, just weeks before AD23 was publicly linked to over 200 cardiac deaths.

As CompCARE and its new parent company enjoyed record profits and PharmaCARE’s stock price approached $300 per share, reports started surfacing that people who received AD23 seemed to be suffering heart attacks at an alarming rate. The company ignored this data and continued filling large orders and paying huge bonuses to all the executives and managers, including John, whose wife recently died from a heart attack after using AD23.

John has come to you with an internal company memo describing the potential problems with AD23, and information describing the company’s willingness “roll the dice” and continue to market the drug.

Your senior partner has asked you to write a memo outlining the following issues for review by the senior partners.

In preparation for this assignment, use the Internet or Strayer Library to research examples of intellectual property theft that occurred within the past two (2) years.

Write an eight to ten (8-10) page paper in which you:

  1. Research three to five (3-5) ethical issues relating to marketing and advertising, intellectual property, and regulation of product safety and examine whether PharmaCARE violated any of the issues in question.
  2. Argue for or against Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) marketing by drug companies. Provide support for your response.
  3. Determine the parties responsible for regulating compounding pharmacies under the current regulatory scheme, the actions that either these parties or the FDA could / should have taken in this scenario, and whether PharmaCARE could face legal exposure surrounding its practices. Support your response.
  4. Analyze the manner in which PharmaCARE used U.S. law to protect its own intellectual property and if John has any claim to being the true “inventor” of AD23. Suggest at least three (3) ways the company could compensate John for the use of his intellectual property.
  5. Summarize at least one (1) current example (within the past two [2] years) of intellectual property theft, and examine the effect on that company’s brand.
  6. Analyze the potential issue surrounding the death of John’s wife and other potential litigants against PharmaCARE as a result of AD23.
  7. Specify both the major arguments that John can make to claim that he is a whistleblower and the type of protections that he should be afforded. Justify your response.
  8. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia is not an acceptable reference and proprietary Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

  • Analyze and assess legal and ethical restraints on marketing and advertising, relative to both consumers and organizations.
  • Analyze and evaluate laws and regulations relative to product safety and liability.
  • Explore copyright laws and intellectual property rights and assess how well they balance competing interests.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in law, ethics, and corporate governance.
  • Write clearly and concisely about law, ethics, and corporate governance using proper writing mechanics.

He already holds various age-related records, including oldest fighter to win a world title, oldest fighter to hold a world title and oldest fighter to defend a world title, but he will try to become the oldest fighter to unify belts when he faces fellow 175-pound titleholder Beibut Shumenov on April 19 (Showtime) at the DC Armory in Washington, D.C., a city where the Philadelphia native has some history.

Both fighters have agreed to terms for the bout, Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer, who promotes both fighters, on Friday. The Showtime telecast will be a doubleheader, Schaefer said, although he has not yet finalized the co-feature. It could, however, involve “Kid Chocolate” Peter Quillin making a middleweight title defense. “I’m very excited that both fighters have agreed to this world championship unification fight,” Schaefer said. “I’d like to call the fight ‘History at the Capital.’ Bernard Hopkins is approaching his 50th birthday and to be able to unify world championships would be a special achievement. Bernard always says he wants to make history and he has made a lot of it, and then he comes up with something else that will be special. He is setting records that will stand the test of time.

“It is a remarkable time for all of us to be able to witness an athlete, a boxer, who keeps trying to push himself to limits which we humans can’t do. But he’s an alien. I agree with him, he’s an alien.” Hopkins (54-6-2, 32 KOs), who has taken to calling himself “The Alien,” will be making the second title defense of his third light heavyweight reign. He won his belt by unanimous decision against Tavoris Cloud last March and defended it in a dominant decision victory against mandatory challenger Karo Murat on Oct. 26.

“I’m very excited that this year is going to be one of making more history,” Hopkins. “I love being in position to do what no other fighter has done at this age. I’m excited and I’m coming for his belt because I want to unify the titles.” Hopkins’ goal is to beat Shumenov, fight once more this year and then meet the winner of the proposed September unification fight between lineal champion Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev for all four major belts. The timing of such a fight — if it could be made — would put it in early 2015, after Hopkins turns 50.

“That is my incentive. That is the absolute plan,” said Hopkins, who is in his 26th year as a professional fighter. “I want all four titles at age 50.” Hopkins was the first fighter in history to hold all four major alphabet belts simultaneously, which he achieved when he knocked out Oscar De La Hoya in their 2004 middleweight world championship fight.

After the 30-year-old Shumenov (14-1, 9 KOs), a 2004 Olympian from Kazakhstan now living in Las Vegas, knocked out Tamas Kovacs in the third round on Dec. 14 in San Antonio to retain his title for the fifth time — with Hopkins watching from ringside — the unification bout has been on Schaefer’s agenda. After Shumenov’s knockout, Hopkins was with him in the ring during his post-fight interview on Showtime and they talked about a possible fight. Shumenov signed with Golden Boy late last year with the express purpose of trying to land a unification fight with Hopkins.

“Bernard Hopkins is a legendary fighter and it would be an honor to fight him,” Shumenov in December. “He said he wants to fight me, I want to fight him. If I had my choice of unifying against any of the other world champions in the 175-pound division, I would pick Bernard Hopkins because he’s headed to the Hall of Fame.” At his age, Hopkins understands that every fight could be his last, so he said he will take this bout as seriously as any other he has had.

“I am taking this fight with Shumenov very, very seriously because I know every fight could be my swan song at this stage of my career. I cannot afford to have a letdown,” Hopkins said. “I thought Shumenov did a great job in his fight in San Antonio. He is not to be underestimated but I believe my experience and craftiness will overwhelm him. He is relying on his youth and I gotta be prepared for him. “He’s not a guy who is going to come for a payday and to be happy he’s fighting a living legend. I can’t think I am going to walk through this guy and be thinking about other fights. I want people wondering if Bernard Hopkins can pull this off at my age. I want them thinking, ‘Well, he’s older now, he’s facing a big puncher.’ I want people to watch and witness history before it closes out.”

Hopkins is trained by Naazim Richardson, who worked with Shumenov briefly in Las Vegas when Shumenov was considering hiring him as a trainer a couple of years ago. So Richardson has given Hopkins a scouting report. “Naazim was telling me about him,” Hopkins said. “I heard he is in the gym all the time, is always in great shape and trains like an animal. Naazim knows this guy to a point.”

Hopkins has history in Washington and the region. He fought his first world title fight at RFK Stadium — which is right next to the DC Armory — in 1993 and lost a decision to Roy Jones Jr. In 1995, in nearby Landover, Md., Hopkins knocked out Segundo Mercado in the seventh round to win his first middleweight belt. He later defended the title in Washington, knocking out Robert Allen in the seventh round of their 1999 rematch. “When I was in Washington (on Jan. 25) promoting the Lamont Peterson (junior welterweight title) fight at the Armory, the people there showed me a lot of love and respect,” Hopkins said. “I got mad respect for the fans there and they got mad respect for me in D.C. Fighting in D.C. is like fighting in Philly as far as I’m concerned. It will definitely be a Bernard Hopkins house and I will give them something to cheer about.”

defining social justice

Assignment 3: Defining Social Justice

Social justice has been defined in different ways, but the definitions usually include similar ideologies. As you study the concept of social justice, you will come across some of the following ideas:

Historical inequities that affect current injustices should be corrected until the actual inequities no longer exist or have been perceptively “negated.”

Wealth, power, and status should be redistributed for the good of the individual, the community, and the society.

It is the responsibility of the government (or those who hold significant power) to ensure a basic quality of life for all its citizens.

From country to country social justice is defined in different ways, and the definitions usually include ideologies as well as differences. Research the definition of social justice in the United States using your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet. Select another country to examine its definition of social justice in order to analyze the ideologies and similarities using the following steps:

  1. Analyze the ideologies.
  2. Identify the similarities.
  3. Using your reasoning skills, give supporting statements or arguments that support your position(s) about the social justice.

Your comparing and contrasting must consider the following:

Historical values and ideologies of the country

Economic structure of the country

Discrimination issues, if any exist

Develop a 2–3-page analysis of the definitions of social justice in the U.S. and a country of your choice. Analyze the ideologies, identify their similarities, and explain how these factors support your statements or arguments about the social justice you’ve selected. Support your explanations with a minimum of two scholarly sources in addition to the course text and apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M1_A3_Defining_Social_Justice.doc. For example, if your name is John Smith, your document will be named SmithJ_M1_A3_Defining_Social_justice.doc.

Sports in Society Unit VII Article Critique

Sports in Society ( Unit VII )

DUE DATE:  FEB 28, 2015

Unit VII Article Critique

The Article Critique assignment investigates professional journals.  You should locate an article

pertaining to sport sociology that is of interest to you.  The article should be less than three years

old.

The format will follow APA style (typed double-spaced) and in three parts.

Part 1 of the critique is the identification of the article.  It is important that you provide the

reader with enough information about your article so he/she will be able to locate the article.

Part 2 is a summary of the article.  List the main points that the author has tried to establish (i.e.,

1, 2, 3 or first, second, third).  Typically, there will be 3 to 5 main points.  If you are

summarizing a court case, you should discuss the following points:  What provision of the law

was at issue?  Briefly state the facts of the case.  What legal tests were applied?  Were

there any unusual elements in the case?

Part 3 is your critique.  You are to provide your reaction (insightful, critical, and logical) to the

points that the author tried to make or an overall critique of the entire article.  A simple statement

of agreement or disagreement is not sufficient.  While you may make such a statement by way of

introduction to your reaction, you must clearly and logically state the reasons for the post that

you have taken.

Length:  A journal article selected for critique should be approximately four pages long, and the

resulting critique should be approximately one page in length.  There is no absolute minimum or

maximum to the length of the article you read or the length of the paper you prepare.

Format your Article Critique using APA style.  Use your own words, and include citations for

other articles as needed to avoid plagiarism.

Prepare your assignment in a word-process application, such as Word.  Your professor will be

notified that it is ready for grading.
