In this course, you have looked at classical ethical theories of utilitarianism, deontology, and virtue ethics. You have also examined different perspectives on ethical issues introduced by relativism, ethical egoism, and emotivism. For this paper, you will apply these theories and perspectives to a current issue, selected from the list of issues below.

Choose one of the ethical issues from the list to research and write about. It is recommended that you choose a topic you are familiar with or that you have thought about previously, if possible. For example, you might choose an issue that either worries you or enrages you; you might choose one that you have worked on; or you might choose one that relates to recent events in your community.

In your paper, you will apply the ethical theories and perspectives to the issue that you select. You do not have to use all six, but you should apply at least two ethical theories and at least one ethical perspective in your paper. Make sure that you write primarily on ethical topics and concepts; do not get distracted by doing analyses that apply political, economic, religious, or legal perspectives. Describe, compare, and apply the ethical theories and perspectives to the topics. Explain your analysis of the issue using these theories and perspectives. What are the ethical issues? Where there breaches of ethical behavior? How could each theory help people think about what constitutes virtuous or ethical behavior?

Your draft must include at least three pages of text plus a title page and a references page. Your draft should include a clear thesis statement that states what you plan to argue. Also include a list of the sources you intend to use. You can also use the Sociology Research Guide located in the Ashford University Library. Format your rough draft according to APA style and properly cite and reference all your sources according to APA format. If you would like to refer to APA samples and tutorials, visit the Ashford Writing Center, located within the Learning Resources tab in the left navigation bar of your online course.

supplies local sports teams with official jerseys and clothing. This
clothing is worn by the players and sold to the fans by the teams.
Gear Unlimited currently has 20 employees but is planning on expanding
to three other cities within the next two years.

The business is brand new and still in the process of making decisions
about how to organize. They’ve seen your educational background and

Social justice has been defined in different ways, but the definitions usually include similar ideologies. As you study the concept of social justice, you will come across some of the following ideas:

Historical inequities that affect current injustices should be corrected until the actual inequities no longer exist or have been perceptively “negated.â€

Wealth, power, and status should be redistributed for the good of the individual, the community, and the society.

It is the responsibility of the government (or those who hold significant power) to ensure a basic quality of life for all its citizens.

 

From country to country social justice is defined in different ways, and the definitions usually include ideologies as well as differences. Research the definition of social justice in the United States using your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet. Select another country to examine its definition of social justice in order to analyze the ideologies and similarities using the following steps:

 

  1. Analyze the ideologies.
  2. Identify the similarities.
  3. Using your reasoning skills, give supporting statements or arguments that support your position(s) about the social justice.

 

Your comparing and contrasting must consider the following:

Your assignment is to write a 5-7 page research paper on either (a) an important film director, (b) a major Hollywood actor or actress, (c) a specific film, or (d) a specific film genre.

 (a) You should select a director who was active during the time period covered by this course (let’s say 1900-1950, to start although you will not be held to this era – just to give you a little extra leeway. Here are a number of possibilities for you to consider: Mack Sennett, King Vidor, John Ford, William Wyler, Billy Wilder, Oscar Micheaux, Alfred Hitchcock, and Frank Capra. There are many other possibilities. In your term paper, give me the basic details of the director’s life and career. Identify some of the director’s most important films. What honors and awards did the director receive? Provide a sampling of critical opinion about the director’s work. View at least one film by your director and comment on it. Don’t summarize any plots.

 (b) Similar to the above time era, you should select an actor or actress who was active between those periods. Here are a number of possibilities for you to consider: Lillian Gish, Tom Mix, Harry Langdon, Harold Lloyd, Fatty Arbuckle, Paul Robeson, Clara Bow, Theda Bara, Rudolph Valentino, Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, Cary Grant,  Joan Crawford, Katherine Hepburn, Humphrey Boga, Judy Garland, Joan Crawford, and John Wayne.
