Risk and Capital Stock prices using CAPM, CGM (attached solution)

Risk and Capital: Stock prices using CAPM, CGM

By walking through a set of financial data for XYZ, this assignment will help you better understand how theoretical stock prices are calculated and how prices may react to market forces such as risk and interest rates. You will use both the CAPM (capital asset pricing model) and the constant growth model (CGM) to arrive at XYZ’s stock price.

To receive full credit on this assignment, please show all work, including formulas and calculations used to arrive at financial values.

Assignment Guidelines:

    * Find an estimate of the risk-free rate of interest (krf). To obtain this value, go to Bloomberg.com: Market Data and use the “U.S. 10-year Treasury” bond rate (middle column) as the risk-free rate. In addition, you also need a value for the market risk premium. Use an assumed market risk premium of 7.5%.
    * Download the XYZ Stock Information by clicking the link.  https://mycampus.aiu-online.com/courses/FINA310/Assignment_Assets/FINA310_U3_f1.pdf
    * Using the information from the XYZ Stock Information document, record the following values:
          o XYZ’s beta (ß)
          o XYZ’s current annual dividend
          o XYZ’s 3-year dividend growth rate (g)
          o Industry P/E
          o XYZ’s EPS
    * With the information you recorded, use the CAPM to calculate XYZ’s required rate of return (ks).
    * Use the CGM to find the current stock price for XYZ. We will call this the theoretical price (Po).
    * Now use appropriate Web resources to find XYZ’s current stock quote (P). Compare Po and P and answer the following questions:
          o Are there any differences?
o What factors may be at work for such a difference in the two prices?
    * Now assume the market risk premium has increased from 7.5% to 10% and this increase is due only to the increased risk in the market. In other words, assume the krf and the stock’s beta remain the same for this exercise.
o What will the new price be? Explain.
    * Recalculate XYZ’s stock price using the P/E ratio model and the needed info found in the XYZ Stock Information file.
o Why is the present stock price different from the price arrived at using CGM (Constant Growth Model)?
    * If you used Microsoft Word to arrive at your answers, then you must provide an explanation of the formulas and calculations.

    * A double-spaced Word document that contains the following:
o All of the numerical values listed in the assignment guidelines.
o Your answers to the four questions in the assignment guidelines.
o The formulas and calculations that you used to arrive at your answers
    * You must include your explanation of how you used Microsoft Excel for your calculations if applicable.

Please show all work and list references.

Do you know where your food comes from? Throughout history, self-sufficiency has been the norm for acquiring food such as grains, meats, fruits, and vegetables. People and nations grew their own food and traded only on a local level. Today, food trade between nations has intensified, food is shipped thousands of miles across the globe, and world trade in agricultural products exceeds $1 trillion annually.

Part 1

Food security means that everyone has an adequate amount of nutritious food to lead healthy lives. You can consider this concept for individuals, for families, for countries, and for the entire human population.

  • How well is the United States doing in reaching the goal of food security?
  • Can it provide food security to all people around the world?
  • Why or why not?
  • What are some things that could be done to reach this goal?
  • Think both in terms of growing and distributing food, technology, and global food trade.

Part 2

Choose one of the foods that you have in your kitchen, fridge, or pantry.

  • Where is this food item grown or raised?
  • How far has it traveled to get to your home state?
  • Read the article in the Web Resources about the Eat Local Initiative by Sarah DeWeerdt, Is Local Food Better?
  • Taking into consideration both benefits and drawbacks, do you think it is it best to buy the food item you chose from a local or from an imported source?
  • Explain your position.

2nd Case Romulac, Inc (SOLUTION)

2nd Case Romulac, Inc:

Romulac Inc. (RI), a subsidiary of a large successful manufacturing conglomerate, supplies a key component in the assembly of residential cooling systems (air conditioning units, etc.). There has been tremendous consolidation in RI’s industry, to the point where only five suppliers of this particular component account for nearly 90% of U.S. industry sales. Paralleling this trend, its customers – comprised of makers of branded residential air conditioning units like Carrier and Trane – have seen similar levels of consolidation in their own industry. Half of these firms produce all their components in-house, while the balance purchases them from specialized component manufacturers like RI. RI’s business is extremely capital intensive, and their 40% share of the market allows them to also be the most profitable domestic player. Strong competitors exist in Europe and Asia.

Although like RI, these foreign players’ strongholds are their home regions, with negligible presence outside of the region. Some of the larger Asian manufacturers have signaled an interest in more aggressively pursuing the lucrative U.S. market. RI is presently considering a $400 million dollar investment in a new plant, which will create a component that is much quieter, more efficient, and is likely to satisfy future regulatory standards. While the core technology for the new component is very old, RI’s engineering and design skills have allowed them to retain their low cost-advantage, even though the component will represent a significant improvement over products currently provided by its competition.

Questions:

1.Develop an argument as to why RI should try to be a first-mover with this new technology?

2.Develop an argument as to why RI should hold back and be a second mover with the new technology?

3.As one of RI’s direct competitors, how would you try to predict what it will do with regard to the new technology?

PPT A company wants to buy $30 million in materials and services from (answer attached)

Weekly tasks or assignments (Individual or Group Projects) will be due by Monday and late submissions will be assigned a late penalty in accordance with the late penalty policy found in the syllabus. NOTE: All submission posting times are based on midnight Central Time.

A company wants to buy $30 million in materials and services from suppliers in China, Japan, and South Korea. It was recommended that the company use an approach to business negotiations that provides a win-win for both parties. Management was also told they needed to know the background of the Asian negotiator and that they should use a “middleman” to help them.

The middleman stressed the importance of etiquette and social customs in addition to the win-win model.

  • What else should the U.S. company find out about each culture before it starts negotiating? What are the differences?
  • How do these countries view contracts?
  • How should the U.S. company begin the negotiations?
  • What are the steps as they apply to these 3 countries?
  • Discuss how the company would negotiate using the win-win model. What sort of strategies would it use?
  • What trade agreements apply, and how do they affect the negotiations?

Part 2:

6–8 slides with speaker notes of 200–250 words per slide (excluding Title and Reference slides)

Details:

Weekly tasks or assignments (Individual or Group Projects) will be due by Monday and late submissions will be assigned a late penalty in accordance with the late penalty policy found in the syllabus. NOTE: All submission posting times are based on midnight Central Time.

draw your own bohr model for dickson only

Atomic models are useful because they allow us to picture what is inside of an atom, something we will never be able to actually see. We’re going to talk about two models, the Bohr model and the Quantum model. While we know that the Quantum model is the correct way to represent atoms, the Bohr model is still useful for a very basic understanding. Think of it as a stick figure sketch of an atom. The parts are all there, its just not quite filled in all of the way.

Bohr Model
The Bohr model of the atom was developed in 1914 by Niels Bohr. In this model, electrons move around the nucleus in fixed, concentric circles. Picture the planets orbiting the Sun. These circles are called energy levels and electrons must have a specific amount of energy to be in each level. The energy levels closest to the nucleus require the least amount of energy. In order for an electron to move further from the nucleus (or move up an energy level) they must gain energy. If they lose energy they fall down to an energy level closer to the nucleus.

Drawing the Bohr model for an atom gives you valuable information about the atom’s valence electrons. The valence electronsthose in the outermost energy level–are the ones that determine the chemical properties of an atom. In order to draw a Bohr model you must first use the periodic table to tell you the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in an atom. For Bohr models we usually draw what the “average” atom for that element looks like and just round the average atomic mass to a whole number and use that for the mass number.

Steps for Drawing a Bohr Model:
1. Count the number of protons, electrons, and neutrons for that atom.
2. Draw the nucleus. Indicate the correct number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus.
3. Draw energy levels around the nucleus, starting with the energy level closest to the nucleus. Fill up each energy level before moving on to the next.

Each energy level in a Bohr model can only hold a specific number of electrons, as shown in the table below.
Energy Level  Max # of electrons
 1  2
 2  8
 3 18
 4 32

For example, here is a Bohr model for the average oxygen atom:

Here is one for phosphorus:

You try drawing one for Magnesium (Mg) and for Boron (B). Count the number of electrons on the outermost energy level to find the number of valence electrons. Check your answers by looking at the handout.

Quantum Model
In 1925 the Quantum model of the atom was developed after it was determined that electrons can behave like a wave and a particle at the same time. In addition, you can’t know the precise location of an electron. Instead of traveling in orderly circles around the nucleus, we describe the electrons as existing in a three-dimensional electron cloud–a shape surrounding the nucleus. You will learn more about the Quantum model in chemistry.

These are some of the orbital shapes possible in the first two energy levels of an atom.

Draw a Bohr model for elements with atomic numbers 1-18 (Hydrogen thru Argon). Draw each diagram neatly, clearly labeling the correct number of protons, electrons, and neutrons for each diagram. Use the average atomic mass from the periodic table for the mass number (round to the nearest whole number). These can be drawn by hand and scanned or photographed, or can be drawn electronically. Count and label the valence electrons (those in the outermost energy level) for each diagram. Upload your diagrams and the answers to the two questions below here.

Questions:
1. Look at your diagrams for hydrogen, lithium, and sodium. What do they all have in common? What group are these elements in on the periodic table?

2. Look at your diagrams for fluorine and chlorine. What do they have in common?
