Parker 1.1

Top of Form

Hi, my name is Kim Parker and I’m a mom to seven great kiddos 5 girls and 2 boys. My husband is in logistics management and we live in south central Nebraska. I’m originally from Gulfport, Mississippi and I miss home so bad! I work full time for NE Department of Health and Human Services as a Child and Family Services Specialist. It is the most demanding and sometimes overwhelming job of my entire life. I haven’t gotten home until very late every night this week which is why I’m here posting this at 11 pm. I am fortunate enough to be able to study when things get eerily quiet at work, so that’s a huge positive.

I have earned my degree solely online. I graduated in March of 2016 with my bachelor’s in Behavioral Science and went straight to work as an Intensive Family Preservation Skill Builder with a counseling agency in Lincoln. The hours and mileage were horrendous so I moved over to DHHS in January. I started my master’s in November and was supposed to start my residency in March however could not get the time off and had to reschedule. I was very disappointed over that! I love Bellevue University and the freedom it offers me to create my own schedule (to a degree!) I am very nervous over this class because numbers just aren’t my thing. I have faith though!

I like the idea of the scientist practitioner model because it promotes continued learning and understanding. It also acknowledges that mental health treatment is not a one-size-fits all practice. While evidence based practice might be cheaper, a great opportunity to learn is missed. Continued research lends itself to advancement in mental healthcare and we need that so badly these days. If new graduate students rely solely on Evidence based practice the potential for new methodologies and treatments is virtually lost. It’s vital to the field to continually research and develop a better understanding.

Walker 1.1

Top of Form

My name is Shawn Walker, but do not let the name my name fool you I am a woman and a mother of five.  I have taken several online coursed before both through Bellevue University and through prior courses with American Military University.  I am scared taking a statistics class, especially online.  Math, in all forms, is not my strong suit and I kind of prefer residential classes overall as I find the environment easier for me to learn.  I am not currently working, my focus is fully on my education right now and being a mom.  However, I did spend 12 years in the Air Force as Security Forces (similar to military police) before being medically separated in 2015.  I would like to eventually be able to work with other veterans and law enforcement officers suffering from PTSD in a counseling capacity.  I hope to one day pursue my Doctorate’s, but that is on hold until my kids are a little older and more self-sufficient.

The scientist-practitioner model can be described as the combining of practitioner practices and therapies into a scientific format to help evaluate effectiveness.  Without the help of practitioners, it would be difficult to truly ascertain how effective some of the suggested therapies are.  They also help discover new therapies through experience which can then be passed on for evaluation through scientific method.  Through the use of evidence based practices the practitioners are able to offer credibility to their practices.  The area of mental health has not developed without its blemishes and fair share of controversial practices.  The uses of evidence based practices allows for the monitoring and evolution of effective and proven methods through scientific proof.

The article I decided to choose is titled “A Call for Action on Toxic Chemicals”.  The article discusses how the household items that we are exposed to everyday may have dangerous toxins that may have an ill effect on a child’s developing brain.  Some of the best scientists, health advocates and doctors are fighting to regulate law that further investigates chemicals that makes plastic more durable, the upholstery on furniture less flammable, and the ones used in pesticides to assure their safety in American households.  Rabin (2016) states, “The goal is to protect expectant mothers, infants and children from neurotoxic chemicals by stepping up efforts to curb air pollution, remediate old lead pipes, phase out certain pesticides, ban endocrine-disrupting chemicals used in food packaging and plastics and come up with a plan for getting rid of furniture laden with fire retardants”.  The concern for scientists are the reluctance tied with studying the ill effects of the chemical agents used in various household agents and the damage they may cause in a developing child’s brain.  These chemical agents need to be further researched before being sold to the community according to researchers.  Rabin (2016) interestingly poses this question, “Before we proscribe medicine, we have to prove it’s safe,” she said.  “So how come with the chemical industry, we assume everything is safe and have to prove there’s harm?”  I agree with scientists and researchers on this issue because the public needs to be made aware of the potential dangers these chemicals can have on our children.

The article which I found is titled “Teens with medical marijuana cards much likelier to say they are addicted, but few teens have them” by Laura Bailey which I located on ProQuest from Berkeley Library.

The article discusses a study “on a nationally representative sample of 4,394 high school seniors and their legal or illegal medical marijuana use as it relates to other drug use. In the study, 48 teens had medical marijuana cards, but 266 teens used medical marijuana without a card” (Bailey, 2015). This article represents a study which is pertinent to medical research because with medical marijuana being legal in some states there is a possibility that more teens are using the marijuana than before.

This study also demonstrates the likelihood of teens engaging in other risky behaviors when engaging with marijuana. “Teens who used other’s medical marijuana were at highest risk for engaging in all five risky behaviors, including using marijuana more frequently to get high and using alcohol and prescription pills. However, they were just 4 times as likely to say they’re hooked on marijuana, as opposed to 10 times as likely for medical marijuana users” (Bailey, 2015)

COLLAPSE

Top of Form

The Pearson correlation is to summarize the relationship between two variables as a single number, and the coefficient of determination indicates what proportion of the variance in one of the variables is associated with the variance in the other variable. For example, I state coat sales increase with dropping temperatures. To prove this I would gather data on sales and temperatures for those days. Next, I would plot this information and would see that the linear relationship is strong. Then I would calculate the Pearson correlation and the coefficient of determination (Erford, 2015).

Linear regression tries to explain the relationship between the two variables by fitting the linear equation into observed data. The linear regression tells the strength of the effect that the independent variable have on the dependent variable. It can also be used to make predictions. Take my example of coat sales, due to global warming coat sales will slowly decrease (Erford, 2015).

Partial correlation measures association between two variables, while at the same time it controls the effects of a third variable. For example, in April there is always a spike in sales when the average temperature is 42 degrees, because the third controlled variable would the end of season sales. The Semipartial correlation removes the effects of additional variables from one of the variables that were included.

COLLAPSE

Top of Form

The Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient summarizes the relationship between two variables as a single number. It is able to take values with a positive “r” indicating a positive linear relationship and values with a negative “r” indicating a negative linear relationship (Erford, p. 363). The decimal indicated the strength of the relationship, meaning the closer the absolute value of “r” to 1, the stronger the correlation is (Erford, p. 363). The easiest way to explain this and determine this is using a scatterplot. The closer the plots are to creating a straight line determines the indication of a stronger relationship.

The coefficient of determination is the square of the correlation coefficient, which indicates the ratio of the modification in one of the variables, is associated with the modification of the other variable. (Erford, p. 371).

The linear relationship between two variables can be used to predict the value between two variables (Erford, p. 375). For example, if the amount of x is used to predict the amount of y, then the amount of y is used to predict the amount of x. They rely on each other.

The elements of linear regression are the slope and intercept. The slope tells the steepness and the intercept is the predicted value of the regression line.

Partial correlation is when the effect of a third variable is removed (Erford, p. 375). Partial correlation only occurs when two variables are correlated because of the third variable in which they are both linked.

A semipartial correlation occurs when three variables have an effect on one another in some form or way however, it may not be direction. For example, ‘x’, ‘y’, ‘z’ are all in the same study. However ‘x’ and ‘y’ correlate and ‘x’ and ‘z’ correlation but, ‘y’ and ‘z’ are partialled out because they do not coordinate with one another (Erford, p. 381).

Partial correlation and semi partial correlation are similar because they both contain three variables and the one of the variables is removed in some form whether it be completely removed or just partially removed with two variables, which do not coordinate.

Hello Mary,

biggest take-away

After viewing the PowerPoint, it was clear that this center places a high value on the staff. There is a definite focus on working as a team and seeking out help when needed. I would surmise that the director of this center understands the importance of creating a positive environment where the employees can learn and grow.

 Somethin new:

Although it is not something that I did not already know, I was reminded by the presentation that the monthly meetings could be used for training hours. The staff members can have a lot of information to share with each other from the various individual training courses they have taken. Utilizing the monthly meeting for the exchange of information that staff members have learned is wise. I have always felt that there is something beneficial and useful which can be taken away from every training.

 Content question:

1.      How do you go about keeping the staff mentally and physically prepared for their work?

2.      The monthly meetings are conducted as a whole group; how do you use effective communication with individual staff members? Are there scheduled meetings which are one-on-one?

Content improvement suggestion:

Perhaps the information provided could be more specific. There were a lot of great ideas, but many of them were vague. For example, instead of saying you want the staff to feel comfortable and supported, state how you will do that. Gadzikowski (2013) noted that many early childhood workers do not receive adequate breaks or planning time which leads to high stress and a significant turn-over rate. Maybe you could provide these to employees as a means of assuring their comfort and support. Providing examples of what is done at your center to foster the ideas which support your philosophy, vision, and mission creates a clear picture of what employees can expect while employed at the center. The staff of your center should be confident in knowing precisely what you expect from them and what they can expect from you in return.

Looking for someone responses to discussion board due tonight by 10PM eastern time.

Good Evening,

I am looking for some to respond to my classmates discussion post. The responses need to be at least 75 words per response and this needs to be completed by 10pm eastern time tonight November 12, 2016. All classes are related the health care.

The Discussion Question:

The Affordable Care Act (commonly known as Obamacare) provides a broad list of preventive services to all beneficiaries, regardless of other coverage.

See the list at:  https://www.healthcare.gov/preventive-care-benefits/

Choose one of these items and explain, in detail, why this preventive service is important to maintaining the good health of all individuals.

Classmates Answer

I Feel it is important for Children and adults to get vaccinated form birth through life. Although there are many people who Think vaccines are not a good thing, they can actually be very beneficial through one life. For example the Chicken pox vaccine can help protect a child from getting chicken pox as well as getting shingles later in life. When a child gets the chicken pox the shingles virus is held dormant inside their bodies until later in life, which is also why the Zostavax Vaccine is beneficial to an elderly person to cut the chance of getting shingles. Shingles can be very painful, and go undetected at first. Working in a pharmacy i have seen different examples of what this can do to a persons body and how it looks. After talking to Patients that have had it then get te vaccine they say i wish i knew about the vaccine before. The rash that shingles forms is very painful and varies in size and color.

I have Focused on just Chicken pox and Shingles. But there are many needed vaccines. Being a diabetic i can say that i need to get the Flu Vaccine and also boosters on pneumonia, along with Hepititus B. Due to a weakened immune system.

Classmates Answer

Alcohol misuse screening and counseling is a preventative service that is important to maintaining the good health of all individuals. Reducing the intake of alcohol will have many health benefits to the an individual including lower blood pressure, lower risk of injury, heart disease, stroke, certain types of cancer, and liver problems. Drinking too much alcohol can also cause a weight increase which could lead to obesity. All these health problems as well as the social issues and the financial costs of drinking too much alcohol are reasons why preventative measures can improve health and save money in the long term

The Affordable Care Act passed in 2010 means that health care plans must cover screening and counseling for alcohol misuse, and depending on the type of insurance you have there may be no cost to the patient. Early detection of problems with alcohol misuse is so important to preventing further problems and minimizing the impact that it may have on close family. There is a lot of advice on the Internet about seeking help for alcohol misuse and the guidelines are very clear on how much is too much. There are also local support groups to help, but it is always dependent on the individual wanting to help themselves.

There should be 2 responses. 1 to each of my classmate answer

Cultural Integration and Workforce Diversity

Diversity in the workplace focuses on similarities and differences all employees bring to the organization. Diversity such as education, cultural, gender, geographical location, and ethnic background should be encouraged and valued. Employees should consider how work policies, communication, and practices have a different impact on their colleagues.

Using the South University Online Library, search the article, “All of Us: Embracing Diversity in Healthcare.”

Based on your research, summarize your thoughts and provide answers or comments to the following questions:

  • Discuss diversity in healthcare with examples and support from your research.
  • Summarize any cited special characteristics and problems in the workplace regarding diversity.

Now, let’s read the following scenario.

You are just promoted to a health administration management position. Your organization currently manages a home health unit where you are responsible for seven RNs, three dieticians, two billing and coding staff members, one physical therapist, one social worker, one accountant, and one health administrator overseeing the administrative duties of the organization.

The community is culturally diverse consisting of Hispanic, Arab Americans, and American Indian populations. Additionally, your staff is diverse consisting of one male RN, several RNs near retirement age, two newly graduated dieticians, and a few staff members representing several cultures. You find the staff does not seem to work well together and there appears to be several groups who do not include others at the lunch table. You have a vision to develop the team to promote unity, increase motivation, and share the same vision for a successful collaborative effort. You think how you will gather information so you can further develop your plan of action to turn the unit from one where there appears to be miscommunication and misinformation to a well-functioning team unit.

Based on the above scenario, answer the following questions:

  • As you begin to develop your plan of action, what important considerations will you address to improve the communication and collaborative effort among the group?
  • What perceived or real barriers do you anticipate based on the wide diversity of the staff and patients? For example, do seasoned and newly graduated staff members develop team cohesiveness immediately? How can language barriers between the team impede proper communication across department lines?
  • What potential conflicts can arise when you do not understand or accept cultural, gender, ethnic, or age diversity?
  • Develop four important steps for how you will implement your plan to improve communication and acceptance of various cultures and diverse workers for each of the perceived or real barriers for staff and patients.

Nursing Assignment: Create Role Play Lesson Plan entitled ” Therapeutic Communication with the angry patient.”

Nursing Assignment: Create Role Play Lesson Plan entitled ” Therapeutic Communication with the angry patient.”

Role Playing a Clinical Application

Role plays can help prepare students for the clinical environment by engaging them in authentic, simulated experiences. Role plays also have a great impact on each learning domain of Bloom’s Taxonomy: cognitive (knowledge), affective (attitude), and psychomotor (physical skills). Due to the hands-on nature required of these activities, role play also gives educators the opportunity to address a variety of learning styles. For example, by having students watch a role play demonstration, nurse educators can address the learning needs of auditory and visual learners. Supplying students with handouts and/or transcripts of the role play can also further address visual learners or students with processing disorders. To engage kinesthetic learners, nurse educators can then require students to demonstrate a role-play situation themselves; which is the ultimate goal and epitome of role playing in practicum settings.

In this Assignment, you will select a clinical activity to role play with a fictitious patient.

Role Play Assignment Instructions

·         Review Chapter 13, “Role Play” in the Bradshaw and Lowenstein course text. How might you adapt the traditional role-play process to create a role play for a video demonstration?

·         Review this week’s media, Role-Play Demonstration. Reflect on the interactions between Dr. Tim Bristol and his patient. In addition, take careful note of the teaching strategies Dr. Bristol uses during his role-play demonstration.

·         Review the Role Play Demonstration: An Example document.

·         Review the Creating a Role Play Demonstration Rubric to review the expectations for this Assignment.

·         Using the Lesson Plan Template document, plan and create your Role Play video.

Role Play

How do I create a Role Play?

Step 1: Identify your intended audience of learners. For this specific role-play Assignment, you must select a clinical skill that you can demonstrate to either nursing students or nursing staff. You may not select patients for this Assignment.

Step 2: Identify a learning need such as a skill, process, or attitude that this specific group of learners might have. When selecting your need, consider those who might most benefit a role-play simulation. This might be an abstract or new idea or one that could be most effectively taught through modeling desired clinical behavior. In addition, it must be one that requires interaction between a nurse and a patient.

Step 3: Begin to outline your role-play ideas in your Lesson Plan template.

Step 4: Carefully construct your learning objectives, ensuring that your role play will address each learning objective. When crafting your objectives, reflect on the cognitive, affective, and interpersonal skills associated with your objectives. In your Discussion posting, you will be asked to describe to which learning domain (cognitive, affective, or psychomotor) each of your objectives is associated.

Step 5: Review your Lesson Plan and think of who might play your fictitious patient. For example, you might ask a colleague, friend, or family member. If need be, this patient could also be a pet, stuffed animal, or cardboard cut-out. When selecting your patient, remember that the purpose of this role playing situation is to demonstrate clinical skills and how a nurse should interact with patients. As such, the focus will not be on your patient, but on the clinical skills and teaching strategies that you employ throughout your role play. Since this is a simulated experience, you may conduct this role-playing activity in an environment that is most convenient for you: your workplace, house, outside, etc. The only requirement is that you accurately demonstrate the clinical skills and/or procedures and teaching strategies within your lesson.

Reminder: NOT ESSAY… USE THE LESSON PLAN TEMPLATE….

·         You have to create only a Lesson plan for my role play and check the role play example downloaded below…….  The title of my Role Play Lesson Plan that you need to create will be “Therapeutic Communication with the Angry Patient.” Please use the Lesson Plan Template on the uploaded files.

The company is reluctant to consider projects with paybacks of more than three years. If projects pass the payback screen, they are considered further by means of the NPV and IRR methods. The firms cost of capital is 9%.

a. What is the projects payback period? Should the project be considered further?

b. What is the projects NPV? Does NPV indicate acceptance on a stand- alone basis?

c. Calculate the projects IRR by using an iterative approach. Start by using the cost of capital and the NPV calculation from part ( a). Does IRR indicate acceptance on a stand- alone basis?

d. What is the projects PI? Does PI indicate acceptance on a stand- alone basis?

7. Project Alpha requires an initial outlay of $ 35,000 and results in a single cash inflow of $ 56,367.50 after five years.

a. If the cost of capital is 8%, what are Alphas NPV and PI? Is the project accept-able under each of these techniques?

b. What is project Alphas IRR? Is it acceptable under IRR?

c. What are Alphas NPV and PI if the cost of capital is 12%? Is the project acceptable under that condition?

d. What is Alphas payback period? Does payback make much sense for a project like Alpha? Why or why not?

8. The Sampson Company is considering a project that requires an initial outlay of $ 75,000 and produces cash inflows of $ 20,806 each year for five years. Sampsons cost of capital is 10%.

a. Calculate the projects payback period by making a single division rather than accumulating cash inflows. Why is this possible in this case?

b. Calculate the projects IRR, recognizing the fact that the cash inflows are an annuity. Is the project acceptable? Did your calculation in this part result in any number( s) that were also calculated in part ( a)? What is it about this prob-lem that creates this similarity? Will this always happen in such cases?

c. What is the projects NPV? Is the project acceptable according to NPV rules?

9. Calculate the IRR, NPV, and PI for projects with the following cash flows. Do each NPV and PI calculation at costs of capital of 8% and 12%. Calculate IRRs to the nearest whole percent.

a. An initial outlay of $ 5,000 and inflows of $ 1,050 for seven years.

b. An initial outlay of $ 43,500 and inflows of $ 14,100 for four years.

c. An investment of $ 78,000 followed by 12 years of income of $ 11,500.

d. An outlay of $ 36,423 followed by receipts of $ 8,900 for six years.

11. Calculate the NPV for the following projects.

a. An outflow of $ 7,000 followed by inflows of $ 3,000, $ 2,500, and $ 3,500 at one-year intervals at a cost of capital of 7%.

b. An initial outlay of $ 35,400 followed by inflows of $ 6,500 for three years and then a single inflow in the fourth year of $ 18,000 at a cost of capital of 9%. ( Recognize the first three inflows as an annuity in your calculations.)

c. An initial outlay of $ 27,500 followed by an inflow of $ 3,000 followed by five years of inflows of $ 5,500 at a cost of capital of 10%. [ Recognize the last five inflows as an annuity, but notice that it requires a treatment different from the annuity in part ( b).]

16. Bagel Pantry Inc. is considering two mutually exclusive projects with widely dif-fering lives. The companys cost of capital is 12%. The project cash flows are sum-marized as follows.
