he term growth and development refers to a dynamic process. Growth being the term for physical changes and development being the term that refers to the increase in complexity of the skills a person is able to perform. There are many factors that influence growth and development these can be divided into biological, environmental, and social factors.

Theories are used to organize growth and development that humans experience. It is important that as a health care provider you have an understanding of the appropriate expectations of physical, psychosocial, cognitive, moral and spiritual development.

Choose one of the following theorists and describe the stages of development and the nursing implications: Erickson, Piaget, Kohlberg, or Fowler.

Please make an initial post by midweek, and respond to at least two other student’s posts with substantial details that demonstrate an understanding of the concepts, and critical thinking. Module 10 Written Assignment – Types of Hazards in Nursing

Criteria

Components of a healthy community are outlined in the textbook as having “low crime rates, good schools, strong family life, robust economy, good jobs, high environmental quality (clean air, water), accessible and quality health services, adequate housing, civic involvement, nice weather, good transportation (roads, public transportation), wide variety of leisure activities, exposure to the arts, [and] reasonable taxes” (Maurer & Smith, 2013). Is the culmination of all these variables what defines a healthy community? I don’t think there is ever a perfect combination of these things in most communities. However, I do think that communities that try to achieve these things can be described as healthy or at least striving for health.  For example, a city (a general area that can define community) may not have the best roads or schools or crime rates, but if community members are working towards improving these things, they could be at least described as working towards the improvement of the health of their community. I suppose “health” in a community, as with an individual, is a spectrum and relative to the context in which it exists. We as healthcare providers aim to reach out to our communities and educated them in order to teach them to create changes in themselves and their surrounding areas. “Health promotion is the process of enabling people to improve their health, and stretches beyond individual behavior to encompass areas such as social and environmental interventions… community outreach is a catalysis that can bring these fields together” (Mucedola, 2015).

Educating our youngest community members about healthful lifestyles and learning healthy habits early on is one of the best forms of prevention of chronic diseases. “School and community based health education continue to be valuable assets to curbing the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the United States” (Mucedola, 2015). This is why public health education and nursing has such an important place in the healthcare system.

 WK3/M

“Gaming is an instructional method requiring the learner to participate in a competitive activity with preset rules (Allery, 2004). The goal is for the learners to win a game by applying knowledge and rehearsing skills previously learned” (Bastable, S.B., 2014, p.486). Gaming has been proven to stimulate the learning environment and its particularly attractive o children.

Gaming has been the selected instructional method chosen to teach a class of 10 Hispanic adolescents whose first language is Spanish. This small group of adolescent will taught about healthy lifestyle and healthy meal choices. Acculturation will be discussed and students will be allowed to express their feelings. Important key factors and characteristics of this ethnic group will be taken into account in order to develop a successful teaching plan which will be through the gaming strategy. Culturally acquired living styles will be respected and share through the game. Preferred language will be assessed and the ability to effectively communicate in English will also be taken into account. Written and audiovisual materials will also be available for further reference and clarification. (Bastable, S.B., 2014). The setting will be a classroom which will be equipped with a screen, laptop, screen projector and handouts with the information and the rules for the game. The class will be divided into two groups. Each group will be presented with a picture of a meal and they will need to identified as healthy or unhealthy and specify why. The group that gives the best explanation will win 1 point. Each group will also be responsible for developing a weekly exercise plan according to their age and the most complete plan will be the winner. At the end of the game the winner group will be recognized and will be allowed to do small presentation about what they learned through the game.

The pictures to be presented will closely relate to this specific ethnic group meal choices and by discussing what it is health or not substitutes for the ingredients or meals will also be presented. The objectives of this game is to exchange unhealthy eating habits by healthy ones while maintaining their meal preferences based on their culture and choices. Understanding the benefits of daily exercise to one’s health will also be another objective that will be evaluated through the teach- back method.

Gaming is a great teaching strategy that has been known for keeping the learner’s attention throughout the session. It is suitable for all development levels of the learner, all ethnic groups and can take place anywhere with little resources needed. Gaming may improve recall and retention of information and learner will learn while having fun. (Bastable, S.B., 2014).

Discussion Answer_D

Advanced Practice Nurse plays several roles in the field of healthcare. They are responsible for obtaining health histories and performing extensive physical examinations which should not be limited to psychosocial, functional, and developmental assessment (Bryant‐Lukosius et al., 2004). APN specialists order and interpret lab results or other diagnostic studies. They maintain the records of the patients and are required to evaluate patients’ response to the care or modify where necessary. APNs can provide counseling and education to families, arrange patients for referrals and take part in research studies. There has been a reduction of primary care physicians and increasing the complexity of the healthcare systems, this has led to many patients seeking the services of the FNPs. Their flexibility, disregarding patients’ differences such age has led to their popularity across the world (Heitz, Steiner & Burman, 2004).

Family Nurse Practitioners can improve their medical health care to the patients by using the EBP. Problem-solving approach  with regards to decision-making within the healthcare organization. Internal and external influences are so critical when it comes to critical thinking and evaluation of evidence to care for the individual patients. A successful nurse practitioner needs to be dedicated and committed to their duties. Considering the fact that the field is so unpredictable since patients can increase at any time, dedicated and committed nurses will discharge their services accordingly.

Week 5 Discussion

As a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) student and future practitioner, the three top concerns regarding credentialing are: (1) the impact of legislation and regulation on scope of practice; (2) unequal legislation regulating FNP scope of practice in various states: and (3) FNP practice reimbursement issues with some insurance companies refusing to pay for the services offered by them. Restrictive scope of practice and licensure are noticed to contribute to more rigid policies restricting APRNs ability to practice independently, and this is especially the case in Florida (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2013). Such restrictions of the FNP scope of practice in Florida is a paradox because Florida is the state with the most critical problems in the primary care sector (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2013). While Florida residents badly need quality, safe, and cost-effective primary care that FNPs can provide, the state legislators seem to be blind to the citizens’ basic human needs. To address these concerns, I suggest two strategies explained below.

The first approach is communication by media campaigns to outline the FNP role and the value of FNP care in promoting patient access to healthcare, improving quality, and safety of patient care. My second suggestion is proactive lobbying to change restrictive APRN regulations by the Government. Highlighting and demonstrating the impact of APRN care can also assist in promoting APRN care that is consistent with education, training and scope of practice. Demonstrating the value of APRN care by implementing innovative models that portray APRN skill, knowledge and experience can also be used as a strategy to strengthen the role of the APRN (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2013).

Week 1 Discussion

I believe that many things are important in nursing practice. All of the aspects of the care we provide has a real and very strong strong impact on the lives of patients but, also their families. I believe in being an advocate for my patients, I always educate people on the importance of being an advocate for themselves. The truth is that, they will not always have a nurse at the bedside who truly advocates for what is best for his or her patients. I believe that advocating for patients is putting yourself and your opinions to the side and considering what the patient wants. At the same token, we need to be educators, we need to explain to our patients their real choices and what is really at stake or what their expectations should be. When we educate our patients on a diagnosis or pain levels or plan of care we need to bring facts and our education to be able to truly advocate for them. Many times I have had patients ask to be free of pain 1hr after major abdominal surgery, I educate them on what to expect, for example, pain level not being at zero at this point, and explaining medication orders. But, I also take time to think what medications are ordered for my patients and if nothing ordered for pain is working I advocate for them because I don’t want them to suffer unnecessarily.

As nurses we have the education and the background to support a persons’ wants and needs. We are their voice in front of doctors, and case manager and many other practices. We have the education to support what their needs are and know how to ask for what they truly need to help them feel better (Gerber, 2018).
