Comparison between the Harlem Renaissance and Renaissance Period
The term renaissance simply signifies rebirth. This was what the European continent was experiencing towards the end of the 14th and early periods of the 15th centuries. The renaissance period entailed the movement of individuals from entirely focusing on religion to a secular outlook with a lot of focus on people. This period started in Italy at Florence and later spread to Northern parts of Europe. The renaissance period was simply a symbol for self expression and technology which were coming. On the other hand, the Harlem Renaissance was a similar symbol, but it was limited to the black community south and north. Harlem constituted both music and self expression which reflected America during that period. It also targeted the progress of the black people in America up to where they stand today. During both the Harlem renaissance and the renaissance period, the participants were bonded together as a single unit (Higgins, 1971).
